About John Haglock

With over 30 years of law enforcement experience, serving Ohio County and its surrounding areas, Howard “John” Haglock has spent his entire career protecting the citizens of The Ohio Valley.

John is a lifelong resident of Ohio County. He and his 6 siblings were raised in South Wheeling by his mother and father, Howard J. Haglock, Jr., a long-time City of Wheeling employee and Dolores Haglock. John is a 1981 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School.

After graduation, John joined the United States Army and was stationed in California, Germany and Louisiana, however, he chose to return home to be closer to his family and to pursue a career in law enforcement. John was a law enforcement officer in the City of Benwood, The Town of Bethlehem and eventually retired from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.

While serving as an Ohio County Deputy John won several awards including WV Prevention Resource Officer – Rookie of the Year, WV Prevention Resource Officer of the Year and The Champion for Children Award from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of West Virginia. John has been married to his wife Stephanie for 39 years and together they have 2 grown children, Ashlie Costello (George) and Howard John Haglock, IV, both of which also reside in Ohio County. John and Stephanie are also proud grandparents to Gabriel James Costello.

John shares in the conservative family values that are the backbone of this community. John believes in integrity, commitment, and service to the community. He is tough on crime and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. He is a firm believer in hard work and dedication as the building block of a stronger and safer community.

John doesn’t want to reinvent the wheel, but rather build on some of the good characteristics and people in the Sheriff’s Office. It is a top priority for him to raise the level of professionalism in the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.

Additionally, he will work hard to improve the Sheriff’s Office relationship with both the Ohio County Commission and the Ohio County Board of Education. John wants to reinforce the relationships with other local law enforcement agencies and collaborate with them to make Ohio County a safe place to live, work and raise a family.

Community Initiatives

Projects

As Sheriff, I will implement various community initiatives that promote safety, trust, and collaboration between law enforcement and residents. Through programs such as neighborhood watch, youth mentorship, and drug prevention, we can build a stronger and safer Ohio County.

Safety Programs

Creating a safe community requires proactive measures. I will work closely with local schools, businesses, and organizations to develop safety programs that address the unique needs of Ohio County. Together, we can ensure a secure environment for all residents.
